Our  Story

Cognitive Wellness Co. was born from a story of redemption, resilience, and renewal — a testimony to the transforming power of faith and the healing potential within every person.

Our founder, Dr. Diana Yates, DNP, PMHNP-BC, spent the early part of her career in Emergency Medicine, serving in both small emergency rooms and large trauma centers. The fast-paced environment and life-or-death moments captured her heart and became her identity. But behind the white coat and relentless drive, Dr. Yates was silently fighting a battle of her own — one with alcoholism, depression, and the internal pain that often hides beneath success.

After several relapses and failed attempts to will herself into recovery, she reached a breaking point that led her to a faith-based treatment center in South Carolina. It was there that she encountered the love of a God who saw her, knew her, and desired her freedom. Through that experience, she learned of His forgiveness, mercy, grace, and relentless pursuit of her heart. She also discovered a profound truth: even God’s children can face mental health struggles and addiction — and still live free. Through the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous and the immeasurable grace of God, Dr. Yates began to experience true healing — not just from addiction, but from the deeper wounds that had fueled it. She came to understand that addiction often coexists with other mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and eating disorders. This realization inspired a calling greater than herself: to help others find the same freedom she had found.

Following her treatment, Dr. Yates felt God’s unmistakable push to pursue Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing, shifting her life’s work from saving lives in crisis to transforming lives through healing. She enrolled in a doctoral program for Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners — and, much to her surprise, was accepted.

Life continued to unfold — bringing both immense blessings and unimaginable loss. During her time in recovery, she met her first husband within the recovery community. Together, they expected their first child, a baby boy. Yet amid that joy, her husband relapsed, and in 2023, Dr. Yates faced the devastating reality of losing him to addiction. Just months later, she gave birth to their son — navigating new motherhood while grieving, working, studying, and holding onto faith. Through that season of darkness, God’s faithfulness sustained her. When she could not pray, read, or even breathe, He pursued her still. He preserved her sobriety and strengthened her resolve to bring hope and healing to others walking through their own valleys.

Today, Dr. Yates is remarried to a wonderful man, and together they pursue His kingdom while raising a growing family. The Lord has restored what was broken and multiplied it with grace beyond measure.

Cognitive Wellness Co. stands as a living testament to that redemption — to a God who heals, restores, and renews. Our mission is to walk alongside those battling mental health disorders and addiction, offering compassionate, evidence-based care that integrates the mind, body, and spirit.

Dr. Yates believes wholeheartedly that wounds can be healed, bondages can be broken, and captives can be set free — because she has lived it.
